Speed Copy Secrets

As Dave Wooding said to me in an e-mail, "You must be doing something right."  Michel Fortin just promoted my Fast Food Copywriting product to his list which was awesome.  Terry Dean, Karl Barndt, Frank Kern, Glenn Turner, and David Deutsch all bought it from me!  How did that happen?

Heck, even Mark Joyner e-mailed me directly, and from his advice I changed my offer.  The original offer was $24.95 e-book and videos, with a before the sale OTO for a $97 product, and if they say yes to that, another OTO for a $247 product.

On Mark's advice, I made it a simple $24.95 sale but after the sale I hit them with a $217 upsell (upgrade to the $247 product), and if they say no to that, a $69.95 downsell (upgrade to the $97 product).

That changed the conversion rate from 2.5% to 5.9% on the front-end... thanks Mark!  And yes, the back-end is still converting (Cialdini Consistency).

What else have I been working on?  As soon as I got back from Affiliate Incubator, I bought Traffic Geyser and wrote 7 articles a day for two weeks.  99 articles, 99 PowerPoints made out of the articles, recorded into 99 videos with Camtasia.

Call-to-action at the beginning and end of the video, and my URL is the very first thing in the video description... very important.

If you remove the creativity and are super-motivated like I am when I write crappy sales letters that only convert at 5 percent, banging out an article in 7 minutes or a sales letter in an hour is no big deal.

I queued everything up so I post one ezinearticle and blast one video everyday on autopilot.  Sometimes I guest blog with a link to the YouTube, sometimes I'll copy a random ezinearticle to goarticles.

The results are hit or miss but it brings in just enough money to justify the one hour of writing and 30 minutes of video recording per day.  (One day, three different articles brought in three $19.95 sales I wouldn't have had otherwise.)  I'm just building backlinks for now.

That's what I've been up to this month, switching from 80% product creation and 20% marketing to 20% product creation and 80% marketing.

How much of your time is spent on product creation and how much on marketing?  What do you do for the marketing... videos, articles, PPC, forums?  Please share in the comments below. If I don't get 15 comments to this post (instead of the usual 10) I'm closing my Traffic Geyser membership and giving up video marketing altogether.

  1. Hey! I thought I picked something up on Twitter indicating that you were up to a lot of article writing.

I don’t really have any marketing tricks at the moment, since I just launched my website, inspired by the system you use and promote in your online ezines (and others).

On thing that I’ve discovered is that even though your pop up on this page is really annoying, the value you create at robertplank.com far surpasses the annoyance of the pop-up. 🙂 Keep it up!

    Dan

  2. Robert Plank says:

Oh yeah, it’s pretty obvious from my Twitter feed that I post an article a day because EzineArticles logs into my twitter for me and posts a link. Especially when they let 5 or 6 stack up and approve them all at once… grr… they seem to be a lot better now.

I hate the pop-up too but it builds opt-in subscribers like nothing else…

  3. Dave Wooding says:

Robert, To answer your question, yes I probably spend 80% on creation and 20% on promotion. Guess I have some catching up to do in the video promotion department. Dave

  4. Robert Plank says:

Hey Dave, I like the videos you make so please keep them coming. I was looking forward to us duking it out on YouTube!

  5. Jack Tackett says:

    Hi Robert,
been a while since Eric’s Warrior Network event – but I see things have been going great for you. I feel back to my old stand by ‘product’ creation at about 100% of my time. I’m currently writing a physical book for NoStarch (they distribute through o’reilly so the closest I’ve gotten to an animal book with them. Then after I’m done with that – its off to write Data Center for Dummies for Wiley (when it comes to dummies – I’m the man! 😉 )

Maybe after that I’ll get back into the IM field. Keep up the good work and hopefully a few more folks will post here.

Say hey to Steven and keep in touch!

    best,
    –Jack

  6. Robert Plank says:

I know Jack, can you believe it’s only been 6 months since Austin? Seems like forever ago. I hope Louviere runs the same event next year.

“Maybe after that I’ll get back into the IM field” — so, maybe you could totally “Joe Vitale” your the release of your book… build a list and make some viral videos, and get everyone to buy your book on the same day in exchange for a crap-load of digital bonuses… to drive it up in the rankings. And then you could say Jack Tackett #1 bestselling Amazon.com author. 🙂

  7. Dean Kennedy says:

    Hi Robert,

Yes, I’m on Michel’s list (and his CB forum) but I’d already bought FFC when you first published it 😉 — nice to see it getting some great endorsement from someone like Michel.

Thanks too for sharing Mark Joyner’s advice! And I know for sure you’re acting like an Aussie when you say “only” at 5 percent conversion … I’ve advised some budding marketers that they should be on your list and watching what you do!

Cheers from Melbourne, Australia — Dean

Yep, tongue in cheek moment there 🙂

  9. Gerard says:

As if you will not get 15 comments on any post!

Have been wondering where you have been. Geez! 7 articles a day + videos… That is great!

I am lost in a woods of information without a guide or a GPS. I will get something started soon; not going to give up.

Oh, by the way, your suggestion for fixing my blog worked. It is just a matter of activating the plugins one by on to see which caused the comments to turn off.. Heck, it has been working so I don’t think I will eve bother with them at this point.

    Thanks for your advice!

  10. Robert Plank says:

Actually Gerard, one time I let my ego get the better of me and I asked for 20 comments on a post… and I didn’t make it, so I had to be happy with 10 comments on that post.

So 15 comments is a good way to challenge myself without getting carried away…

I wonder if 50 comments is possible? Possible if I gave away free CDs in exchange for comments…

I am lost in a woods of information without a guide or a GPS. I will get something started soon; not going to give up.

Put yourself on a 7 day trial period.

For 7 days, you put a freeze on all e-mail checking, e-book buying, forum surfing, socializing (unless you need a break), TV watching…

… and only work on that one task, such as nothing but article writing for 7 days… nothing but finishing this one product for 7 days… whatever you need to do.

The worst that can happen: you go back to being yourself after 7 days.

  11. Damn it kid! You’re awesome!

A machine of self discipline & action.

I am super-impressed. Now, if you could only bottle and sell that, it would be worth 1,000,000 times any of your other products you sell. 🙂

“On Mark’s advice, I made it a simple $24.95 sale but after the sale I hit them with a $217 upsell (upgrade to the $247 product), and if they say no to that, a $69.95 downsell (upgrade to the $97 product).”

Robert, what were these upsell and downsell offers you are referring to?

  13. Robert Plank says:

Timmy, this was the offer up until yesterday: http://www.fastfoodcopywriting.com/order.php

That’s the choice between $24.95 or $97 BEFORE the sale.

I changed it to: They pay $24.95 at http://www.fastfoodcopywriting.com … that’s the only choice, to pay that $25.

After they buy, I say wait, you can upgrade to my PHP in a Box, Full Blast PHP, and Guerilla PHP script package for $217 (normal price is $247 so I’m just subtracting the price they just paid). That offer contains 106 scripts and 28 hours of marketing training.

If they say no to that, I present them with Guerilla PHP, for $69.95 (regular price $97 so again, I’m just deducting their purchase). 46 scripts and 13 hours of marketing video training.

If they still say no, they get the $24.95 download link. Purchase, then upsell, then downsell.

  14. Hi Robert,

Have a question to ask you and others reading this thread.

Other than placing a link to your site in the description, is there any other way to promote your site posting videos on YouTube?

When posting articles to article directories, they allow the use of a resource box for promoting your site, YouTube doesn’t give that kind of flexibility.

Maybe I should look at using the video description like a resource box?

I’d appreciate some input on how to promote your site posting pre-made (PLR) videos to YouTube (Which I have about 20 gigs stored away).

    Thanks,
    Kenny

  15. Robert Plank says:

When posting articles to article directories, they allow the use of a resource box for promoting your site, YouTube doesn’t give that kind of flexibility.

I start the first slide of the video giving them my web site, and then I summarize the resource box in the last slide, and read that resource box aloud word for word on that final slide.

Also I have the URL I’m promoting watermarked at the bottom throughout the entire video.

  16. Robert – you are my new definition for MASSIVE ACTION. People talk about it all the time, but you’ve done a marvelous job of illustrating it.

Congratulations on yet another round of success! Well deserved.

    Jeanette

  17. Robert Plank says:

    Thanks so much Jeanette!

Hey look at that, passed up 15 comments, I guess I can resume my video marketing after all.

  18. Robert, is there a quick way to watermark a video?

I don’t need any fancy software that gives me a hundred ways to achieve this effect. Just want something that can make this happen simply by answering a few questions.

    1. Loads up the video to be watermarked.
    2. Asks if you want an image or text watermark.
    3. If text is chosen, brings up an edit box to type in the text (This case an url to my site).
    4. Gives you an option to place the water mark in the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right corner of the video.
    5. Click Create Watermark and then pops open a “Save As” dialog box” to save your new watermarked video in a folder on your harddrive.

Can you recommend any software that does the above? If not, maybe you can develope a script that does this?

  19. Robert Plank says:

You can do it in Camtasia. Even if your videos aren’t Camtasia videos.

Just go to batch production, select the videos you want (camrec, avi, wmv, mpeg all work) click next, then go to the Preset Manager and add a preset.

In the preset you can add the watermark. They don’t let you just enter text, you have to go into photoshop or whatever image program you use to create an image containing your text, or go to http://www.cooltext.com to generate a banner.

Add the watermark into the preset, you can define top left, center, bottom, etc. I always do bottom or bottom right.

That’s my quick way to watermark a video, doesn’t require any additional software, and you can load up 100 videos to be watermarked if you want.

  20. Thanks again Robert.

Looks like your outline for using Camtasia to watermark a video is right on point. Great!

This http://www.cooltext.com site is very nice. First time I’ve heard of it.

One more thing I need to ask?

CoolText has a lot of options for creating an image. What style/button combination do you find works best for watermarking a video with your site URL? Want to make this as dummy proof as possible, so I don’t go screwing things up. Any tips you can give (Including height and width demensions to use etc…) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help and I love this new alert option for blog post. Like having my own 24/7 cyber messager.

  21. Robert Plank says:

I only found CoolText while leaving your reply, quick Google search, ha ha.

I would go with the Simple layout, and choose one of the Classic fonts.

Watermark size: Mine is 250 pixels wide and 25 high. Any reason for that? None whatsoever.

The default size they give you on that page (70) is fine… because Camtasia lets you resize the watermark when you apply it anyway.

  22. Becki Maxson says:

    Robert,

Love the focused action on 7 articles/day x 14. That’s a great challenge to the rest of us!

A very easy next step is turning them into “audio articles” or – duh – podcasts. Voila – submit on podcast directories – repurpose for 99 more backlinks with strategic meta tags.

Now you’ve got text, video and audio — all from the same stuff. Of courses there’s automation tools that make all the syndication faster, and there ya go!

We start with our clients with audio, usually teleseminars, then transcripts -> articles -> PPT/Camtasia video -> audio article/podcast -> syndication. A very productive model!

    Hahaha go figure.

    Thanks for the advice Robert!

  24. Man, I always got trapped into 80% product creation and content writing, now I’m into 80% traffic-getting 🙂

  25. Hi you guys gals action takers one n’all interesting post very refreshing to see the owner of the blog actually spilling the beans on how much action is needed to be seen! heard? read! … and then hopefully bought from? on a daily basis! … so I did a Google search on your name Rob and its looking good I can almost follow your tracks here there and every where your sure are a bizzy bizzy lad … my self I want to get into more automation so I’m running with Brute Force SEO at this moment I’ve just come through the $1.00 7 day trial so no results to share as yet and of course its always a time taking task to understand and implement new technology at its best but I find running with these programs is you always learn how big the internet really is when you see what these program producers cover finding new ways to contacting new potential customers like we all soon come to understand life online is all about traffic yes I know the buying kind … lol

All my best to you and your better days graft

Was digging around looking for a Javascript solution to a problem I encountered and lo and behold found your Javascript bundle.

Then got Michel’s recommendation in quick succession.

No brainer getting your stuff on the back of that – look forward to utilising it Robert.

Great stuff (from a “retired” techie who can’t be arsed to code anymore!)

Can you set up your opt-in popover to cookie the user so it only appears once, or x (definable) number of times? Or maybe it cookies them after they opt in and only stops appearing if that is the case.

  29. Robert Plank says:

Rich, what are you talking about? Action PopUp? Yes, it has that functionality built-in.

Is the $97 package still available? My wife suggested we buy it but now it’s not clear how… 🙂

I have been using Traffic Geyser and article marketing to get with very good results for virtually any long tail keyword phrase I want.

It also works in any niche. The beauty of it is that although I am targeting long tail keyword phrases, I obviously sprinkle my articles with the more ‘difficult’ to get phrases and after a little while I find that I start ranking for those highly sought after phrases.

you can;t ask for comments to get a prize and then send the download to everyone…

cuz then people won’t respond next time, assuming they’ll get the download anyway!

  34. Robert,

    No Posts?

  36. Robert Plank says:

    Keioe,

    No, I don’t think I’ll do that.

  37. Steve says:

Your answer to Keioe was ” No, I don’t think I’ll do that. ” , why , is there a specific marketing reason, e.g.
people thinking that because of an ” older date ” the
post may no longer be relevant ?

  38. Robert Plank says:

Yes, on many blog posts (and within membership sites) I’ve come across many, many people who wlil discount good information even if it is only 6 months old. That’s copywrting in action for you… conversions even apply to blogs!

  39. Josh says:

I don’t trust blogs that don’t have dates, and I discount them more completely than ones that have older dates.
