1668: Rapture Timing, Tribulation and End-Times Clarity with Howard Hunt

End-times prophecy can be confusing, especially when popular teachings seem to conflict with Scripture and history. In this episode, Howard Hunt, author of “Warning Rapture: The Great Disappearance, An Eventual Problem in Timing,” shares insights from over four decades of intensive study on the rapture and the tribulation. He explains why he believes the widely accepted pre-tribulation rapture view is based more on assumptions, recent history, and financial interests than on clear biblical foundations. Drawing from passages like Daniel 9, Ezekiel 38–39, and 2 Thessalonians 2, he lays out a detailed sequence of prophetic events that challenges conventional thinking. Howard also uncovers the historical roots of rapture theory in the 1830s and how it spread through movements, teaching institutions, and study Bibles. His research raises tough questions about why so many believers expect to be removed from suffering when the apostles themselves endured great hardship. This conversation is designed to help listeners think critically about what they have been taught and return to a deeper, Scripture-first understanding of end-times doctrine.
Howard walks through the idea that a coming war involving Israel, Russia, and surrounding nations could trigger a peace treaty that marks the start of the seven-year tribulation. He explains how this covenant, linked to the Antichrist, sets prophetic “time” in motion and why the midpoint when the Antichrist stands in the temple and declares himself to be God is so crucial. Listeners hear how Howard differentiates between the general tribulation and the “great tribulation,” connecting it to the true wrath of God described in Revelation. He also discusses why miscalculations about rapture dates have caused real-world damage, from people selling possessions in anticipation of escape to believers becoming disillusioned when predictions fail. Through personal stories from ranching life, time in Israel, and ministry experiences, he illustrates how easily people can follow spiritual trends like sheep led astray. Howard emphasizes that a misguided hope of avoiding hardship could leave many unprepared for deception, persecution, and apostasy. This episode challenges Christians to rethink comfort-driven beliefs and to anchor their expectations in careful, contextual biblical study.
At the heart of Howard’s message is a call to spiritual readiness, genuine faith, and a living relationship with God rather than reliance on sensational timelines. He urges believers to “study to show yourself approved,” describing true worship not just as outward expression but as a lifelong pursuit of knowing God and His Word. The conversation highlights the urgency of preparing hearts, sharing the gospel, and strengthening the kingdom of God within, especially if current global tensions point toward a rapidly approaching prophetic season. Howard also shares how near-death experiences, personal loss, and hardship deepened his dependence on grace and convinced him that God can meet people anywhere, even at their lowest point. He reminds listeners that faith is activated through listening being quiet before God, using our “two ears and one mouth” to hear more than we speak. The episode closes with an encouragement to be ready, watchful, and compassionate toward others as prophetic events unfold. For those wrestling with questions about the rapture, tribulation, and what lies ahead, this discussion offers clarity, challenge, and a powerful invitation to seek truth beyond popular theories.
Quotes:
"It's the Bible that says to study to show yourself approved, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth. To worship God is to learn of Him."
"End-times deception is basically monetary. The rapture teaching went into the Scofield Bible, it went to the universities, and it really brought in the money."
"I just want to share information that may be beneficial to the brethren and to people who do not know the Lord, because there’s a lot of pre-trib stuff going on all over, and it’s deceptive."

Download transcript (.txt)West Texas rancher Howard Hunt spent 42 years studying one provocative question, which is why would God evacuate His army before the battle begins? And it's all explained in his book, Warning Rapture: The Great Disappearance, an eventual problem in timing, and it challenges the popular pre-tribulation view and argues that Scripture reveals an order of events believers must understand so they are not deceived. So this is important stuff, Mr. Howard. How the heck are you?
Just fine, sir, just fine.
Wonderful. Well, tell us about this book. What is it?
Well, this is a, a book that that has I had been writing on collecting information since around 1980, and it's on about the subject of the pre-tribulation rapture and all of its information, and so there is a there is a there's a lot there's a lot involved, and just a lot of studying, and so kind of where's that?
Okay, and, and so to get us caught up, like what is there's like pre tribulation, mid tribulation, post pre wrath. Like, can you explain that for us?
Yes, sir. I kind of have to start off with the, the, the rapture the rapture theory. There, this it was not, it's not Hebraic. The word rapture is not Hebraic, and the the true, the true language of of God, Jesus, his his his language was was was Hebrew, and there it was. It's not in the Bible, but there was a situation that created this rapture thought in 1918 30 with a little lady that was that was Mary McDonald. I believe she was 1718, and it was in Ireland, and the she was a member of the Irvingites Society, and she had a she had a word, and basically that she that we were going to have to prepare, you know, for the tribulation, and that we were still going to be be there. But then they took it, and they. Kind of just I don't know just advertised it that that when the tribulation came that we were going to be out of all of the trouble which is coming along and it's basically been based kind of on assumptions, and it there was one assumption, you know, that that that scripture, my Lord said, I go to go to heaven, my father's house, or many rooms, you know. We're going to come and and we'll I will come back and take you, and then there's another another scripture on, you know, I have to my scriptures on is the Matthew 25 that the Lord will keep you from the wrath of God, and I started thinking about that, and and it it it just kind of got involved to where when does the tribulation start? No one really knows that, and that. when does the tribulation start? What has to be done beforehand? There, there is an order. There is an order to that, and so I. Let me gather thoughts. I went to I went to Israel in seven in 78, I believe, and and and really, really, you know, kind of got some knowledge of Hebrew, but anyway, way I start is in Daniel chapter 927, where the the there's an individual that that commits the covenant, and to to to to bring about a covenant, there has to be a war, and the war of Ezekiel chapter 3839, is really getting ready to take place almost right now, and and this fella who signs a peace treaty is the Antichrist because he's the one who allows them to build the temple, do the sacrifices, and it's a seven-year period. And this war, the they burn, they God destroys the enemies on the hills of Israel, and they burn the they burn the weapon seven years. Well, there's not a seven year period left over until the return of the Lord on Mount Zion when He sets His foot down, and so that is the that kind of starts the tribulation. Well, when when that kind of like a kind of like a racehorse, you know, all the race horses are in the in the in the in position, and the gun goes off. Well, this signature on this piece of paper that that I believe it is. It's it's contacted to the Abrahamic covenant covenant. It's completion of it. What's the word? It's not. He commits the covenant, and so basically time time time starts, and then he he's kind of like he rides in on on on Revelation six with a bow, and he war except stuff like that. But then in in the middle of it, when he stands in the temple, declaring himself to be God, that's basically where I have found scripture to where it that will occur mid-trib, but the the the pre-trib is is. Is is it's kind of like why in the world will will Western society think that we are so important that we're going to get taken out? When look what happened to the apostles. Look what look what you know happened. You know to to all of those people that serve the Lord. You know, they weren't they weren't whisked out and you know delivered. But then in 111 instance, I have a book. It's called 1988: Reasons Why the Rapture Will, Will Occur. And this is a this, this is a you know I know it.
You can look at it, but this was one one deal where supposed to supposed to be supposed to you know be a rapture, and it didn't happen. And I met a little girl when when they cut my leg off. I was in a in a assisted living, and I met a girl that was a that was the she she ran she ran the hospice part of the assisted living. As we started talking about the the battle of all of this, she said her dad and a lot of church members. This is in San Antonio. A lot of church members went out and said, "Well, that's where it is. So they went and bought boats. They bought electrical equipment. They bought golf clubs. They bought cars, thinking that they would escape. They wouldn't have to pay a bill, and. This was this was a real truth. I mean, it really hit me. And then when it didn't happen, these guys got mad. They got mad at God because you know God didn't you know come through. They got mad at the church. They got mad just you know there it's the Bible says to study to show yourself approved rightly a workman rightly dividing the word of truth. You need to study the true, the true worship in Israel is to study. The worship is yes, but but to to worship God is to learn of Him of all you know, and so these guys, the they finally they finally got their heads, you know, screwed on right, and and got away. But it does say in in chapter two of Thessalonians that the gathering together of the brethren will not take place until you see the abomination of desolation standing in the temple, declaring himself to be God, which is at midrib. But it says there must be a great apostasy. Well, what's going to happen is this: it's going to these people that are out there thinking that they're not gonna, you know, have to, you know, be prepared. The Lord, you know, you know, will give us gives us a word of preparedness, but will not be prepared. And what I think is that when this when this antichrist system comes in, they're going to be they're going to be fair game for them because it's going to they don't know what to do, so they're going to follow. They're going to follow. I was in the I'm in the sheep business. I was 8070 years in the sheep business. We ran the ranch, and people don't like sheep. They're like lemons. They just fall off the. You know, if if someone speaks to them and it sounds good, and you know it's okay, and and they follow, and and it's sad. It's really sad, and it's basically Monetary, monetary, you know, means, and because in in the the Rapture deal in 1830, it went into the Scofield Bible. The Scofield Bible went to Biola University, and there were some oil barons that supported it, and it really, it really brought in the money, and that's you know that's kind of where it all began, but it's just been progressing, and and it's, it's deceptive.
Yes.
People, people, you know, people. I've lost friends, you know, that said, you know, no, no, you know, we don't believe in. And even though it's, even though you read the book, I have it. It's it's really there's an order. There's an order of God. There's an Alpha and an Omega, there's a beginning, there's an end. And it's, and it's just, you know I try to try my best to to produce the truth and and and and well there was there's also a post there's a friend of mine there's a post tribulation that that Jesus I believe, was in the garden and he was just getting ready to to get crucified, and he said, "Lord, take care of my, take care of my, you know, the ones that you have given me, the apostles, you have given me to protect them, you know, from all that's coming on. Well, that was kind of you know protecting them, but then they said that you know protect all of those who all of those who have been given through their ministry, and so that's some that's that's that's some people's thought, you know, that we're going through the whole process of seven years, and but it's it's not really viable due to the fact that if if we go through that, and then we come. We're we're we're taken out at that end time. Then we're going to have to miss the the supper of the Lamb because when we're taken out, we go directly. You know. Into the supper of the Lamb, between between Revelation six and seven, and but anyway, it's it's you know I I just I just I hope it it comes through, and I just want to to share information that may be beneficial to the brethren or people who who who do not know the Lord, because I know there there's a lot there's a lot of the pre-trib stuff going on all over. It's international. It's international. You know, there in Africa, where they thought it was going to be done based upon an astrological event, and the church in Africa told them to sell all their goods and everything like that, and put the money into the church, and it didn't happen. And you know, it's, it's, it's, it's a ripoff, man.
Yeah, ripoff all starts. Well, you've learned a lot, and you've you have a lot packed into this book. And as far as so, this like the seven year tribulation. I mean, what what's your guess? Like, do you think it will happen soon, or happen in our lifetime, or like, you know, I know no one, we're not really correct, but when do you think this might happen?
I think you're you're about you're, you're about probably you could be weeks or or months, but the the the thing to thing to look at is the birth of Israel. Jesus said these things will not come, you know, but this generation will not pass until. Well, Psalms 90 is is three score and 1070, and I believe that I'm kind of on that side. I believe it says 10 more with pain than suffering, so that's 80, and Israel is 78 years old. So if this generation will not pass, you're looking at a two-year, two years expanse. I mean, you know that's that's the words of Christ. Two years expanse until the tribulation occurs, and the the the the war of of Ezekiel 3839, where God pulls Russia down. Well, you're seeing that right now. It's building right now, and it's and it's and it's it's on the it's on the the the chessboard. I mean, all the players are being set up, and the United States is is you know protecting Israel. But I believe Isaiah says that all nations will turn against her. She will become a millstone on the necks of all the nations, so there has, and I think Netanyahu and and Trump are fighting, or you know they're disagreeing, and and but then Russia is starting to get involved. But anyway, the it's it says the God pulls them down on to Israel to take a spoil. Well, I believe that spoil is oil because I mean they're just that's what they're doing. They're just you know, but Israel is good in agriculture. It's just you know good in there's there's some diamond mines there in the in the minerals of the Dead Sea, there were a lot of lot of you know minerals, but earth earth earth minerals. But I believe that you that you will probably probably see at least in two years that that there has to be a war and there has to be a peace, because war and peace you you sign a treaty, and that treaty is that signature on that treaty is going to start that time period. So the way you look, if if Israel is is 7880, this generation will not pass. Two year period, and then seven. So you know you you might look somewhere within a nine nine year period. No one knows the day or time, but but the signs of it are when the birth, when you you know your your your baby's in the birth canal, and they're gonna it's gonna be painful, painful, painful, and we get near the end. I mean, near the midtrib, and you know. It's it's it's just no one's going to know the date of time, but but it's it's and then the people say in Ezekiel in Matthew 25 he said, well God will not well God will not keep will not will keep us from the wrath of God. Well, He will keep us from the wrath of God, but I just found out the word wrath is Revelation chapter 616 17. It says, "Then the true wrath of God begins. Well, that's That's that's mid trip, the true wrath of God. I mean, when when He just takes He He takes Satan and gives Him, you know, He just releases Him because really the devil is God's is is I mean is God's He God has control of it, but right there, Daniel says that the Antichrist gets total control, and so that's when the wrath of God, the Jacob's into Jacob's troubles, the wrath of God, the the vengeance of God. That's when it begins on the begins on the three and a half last last part of the tribulation. Tribulation is tribulation, but the second part is the great tribulation. So, just just it's, it's, it's, you know you could be looking at nine years, kind of, you know, because two, and then seven.
So yeah.
I think it's going to know. I think we're the generation. We're the generation is going to is going to see it, and and Just I just tell people that without the Lord, I mean, you know, and you know, you have to the the scripture that's that's starting to come up now that that you know, Lord, Lord, you know, we cast out demons, we could heal, we did this, and and and the Lord says, you know, I didn't know you. The virgins, you know, they were all virgins, but they weren't ready. We need to be ready. We need to to to to get ourselves in in our people. We need to need to share Jesus and and. Kind of save souls and and you know produce the kingdom, produce the kingdom of God and and because that's where it is, it's, it's within us.
Yeah, what a message, right? That crazy times are coming, and we don't know exactly when, but it's important to be prepared and have our faith intact and be ready. So this book where we discuss this and more is called "Warning Rapture: The Great Disappearance and Eventual Problem and Timing" by mr. Howard Hunt. And what are some next steps here? Just go to Amazon, find Warning Rapture, the book, or what should we do now?
Excuse me.
What should we do now? What are some next steps?
Well, I mean, it's, it's a, just publish. I'll just get it get it out. I also have it in Spanish. I have I have it in Spanish as well as, and it hasn't been, it hasn't been, you know, advertised in Spanish. And there's a terrible, there's a real good market because beautiful people. I mean, they're they're believers of of you know. In I've been to Spanish churches in in in Del Rio because it's on the border, but you know, beautiful believers, and a lot of times they're not like all the all the Gentiles. You know, we have to we have to think about this that, but but I mean, it would be a good market for them. So, but anyway, just I just pray that that whatever whatever the Lord leads me to, and and it's His it's His work. It's not mine. It's it's His glory, I mean, He, He, He, I just think about daily. I was near death, and if if my wife would have come out, I want to see her. I would have you gone with her, but the Lord spared me for a reason, man. For a reason, and and cut my leg off and. I just have to laugh about that, but it's kind of all you can do. Hey, you know what? What can you do? The grace of God. The grace of God is just. I mean, He'll meet you anywhere. You know, if you're in the gutter down, I had a I had a barber chair one time, and I I got drunk, and I put that barber chair up, and I said to God, I can't and I can't take it anymore, and I heard an audible voice say it's about time. So that's where we need to get when when people are down. I mean, they just, just you know, reach out to God. He's there, He's there.
Very nice, well, thank you for writing this book, and we can get it on Amazon. Look for Howard Hunt, and we'll also have a link under this podcast. Warning: Rapture, the great disappearance, an eventual problem in timing, and it pays to get this education and know we're in for, and how what we maybe heard about the rapture and the tribulation has been maybe misunderstood, and it's time to get the benefits of 44 plus years of research to know what we should know. Before I let you go, Mr. Howard Hunt, we're getting the book Warning Rapture: The Great disappearance, but I like to ask at the end of these about a fun or interesting quote or lesson that has served you. So, what comes to mind as far as a fun or interesting quote or lesson?
Well, I'm just not just I don't know. Just a lesson to to be quiet and and and and listen to the Lord.
Okay, we're here for that.
My life, my life, my life has been that way, and, and He will guide.
Yeah, you got one mouth and two ears, right? Better make double use of these,
huh? excuse me.
You have
Two ears for a reason.
Yeah, you got two ears for a reason, and, and a heart, and a heart. There you go. Have a heart towards towards others also. I mean, it's it's God give you God gives you the spirit of God and and and the kingdoms within yourself, but you just you have to activate it, and you just you know, and and with with the Lord, I mean, it's it's get him on your side.
Very great time to activate, and we can begin by reading this book, Warning: Rapture, The Great Disappearance, An Eventual Problem in Timing by Howard Hunt, and thank you, Mr. Howard, for showing off, stopping by, and being such a great educator, I'm very grateful.
Well, I appreciate it, sir. And one one thing in the book I want to I want to say, I'm a lot of times I'm very repetitive, you know. I repeat, but in my yeah, I graduated from the University of Texas, and but in in in you know learning in in classes, I was always repetitive. I had to take notes and you know rewrite notes, and in repetitiveness, you know, bring. I mean, I just you learn it a lot. You know, sometimes, you know, from that. So that's probably why it. I mean, I meant to to repeat, but but I think you know it, it will it it will benefit, I guess.
Yeah, but repetition is the mother of skill they say.
Yep.
Very good, so we'll check out that book, "Warning Rapture: The Great Disappearance" by Howard Hunt. And thank you, Howard, for stopping by and for helping us out.
