484: Re-Assess, Re-Engage, and Re-Affirm to Re-Succeed: Gratitude, Baby Steps, and Building Success Habits with James Colburn

He is a Franchise Consultant and Sales Trainer for one of the largest and most successful real estate companies in the nation, John L. Scott. At the height of his real estate career he sold 10's of millions of dollars in real estate each year.
On the outside, it looked like James was living the ultimate dream, but along the way, he had lost his sense of purpose.
James realized that conventional measures of achievement can keep even the best performers from finding fulfillment. He mistakenly defined himself by his accomplishments rather than by who he was, which in turn, made him miserable!
To help others find purpose and redefine what matters most, James created his Personal Resucceed Coaching program where he helps high achieving professionals and entrepreneurs get more from life. He recently published his first book, RESUCCEED: Create an Extraordinary Future While You Sleep by Using the 5-Minute Epic Evening Ritual. In this book, James shares insight into the "purposeless epidemic" and breaks down the transformational evening ritual that's helping people reclaim their lives and find true happiness.
Quotes:
“What if, instead of living a life where you're not enough—but hopefully someday in the future you will be—we live a life where we're already enough?” – James Colburn
“We're all addicted to something—and for some of us, it's adrenaline, dopamine, ego, or the constant upward arrow on the bar graph.” – James Colburn
“Life doesn't promise there are only ups; there are downs. What goes up comes down, but guess what? What goes down comes up.” – James Colburn
Takeaways:
03:42 High achievers often chase success without building daily fulfillment into their lives.
06:44 Asking three reflective questions before bed can unlock creative problem-solving through your subconscious mind.
15:39 Believing you are already "enough" is more powerful than constantly trying to prove your worth.
26:44 Small, consistent habits can transform your approach to personal and professional growth.
30:23 Sleep and self-kindness are critical tools for sustainable success.

Michael's third book, Your Life's Purpose: Uncover What Really Fulfills You, helps the reader and student get more clarity about their life's purpose AND most importantly, what they need to be experiencing to live their life's purpose. His YouTube videos have millions of views, and his new live weekly Internet show, Hang Out With Michael, allows him to connect with fans of Law of Attraction in an exciting way.
Quotes:
“The law of attraction isn't responding to your dream board; it's responding to how you feel about your dream board.” – Michael Losier
“Every time you use the words don't, not, and no, you're thinking about what you don't want, and when you think about what you don't want, it causes you to send the vibration of what you don't want.” – Michael Losier
“Whenever we use the words coincidence, serendipity, synchronicity, fate, karma, or luck, we're really describing evidence of the law of attraction.” – Michael Losier
Takeaways:
01:00 Your thoughts and feelings create your reality, and you are responsible for both positive and negative outcomes in your life.
10:54 Avoid using negative words like "don't," "not," and "no" as they inadvertently draw attention to what you don't want.
22:55 Frame your desires as being "in the process of attracting" rather than claiming you already have something you don't.
26:43 You become what you focus on, so choose to create an upward spiral of positive thinking and outcomes.
30:22 Remember the core principle: "I get what I vibrate, not always what I want."

423: Escaping Darkness: End Self-Sabotage, Negative Self-Talk, and Hit Restart to Make Progress with Life Coach Marti Forrest

Marti Forrest Hicks is a life coach and here is her story in her own words: "I mentor/coach people on their journey into loving themselves from the inside out. After a series of monogamous abusive relationships, I learned how to reprogram the messages that sabotaged me in every relationship I entered, because I had no idea how to LOVE me first. How I love me dictates how I am in every single relationship outside of me. How I am with me is how I am with you."
Quotes:
“We're always co-creating with people. We get wounded when we're children by our environment, our parents, or whoever was our caretaker at that time.” – Marti Forrest
“If it's in my best interest, it is also in theirs. Because when I'm authentic and true to me, I'm taking a stand for myself—my esteem, my life, and my purpose.” – Marti Forrest
“We have this idea that at certain ages we should be at certain points, but if our emotional age isn't there, it doesn't matter what our chronological age is.” – Marti Forrest
Takeaways:
00:20 Recognizing destructive personal patterns is the first critical step toward meaningful life change.
19:10 Personal growth happens in a spiral, with each cycle bringing faster insights and shorter recovery times.
37:59 Self-improvement starts with planting seeds of awareness, even if immediate action isn't taken.
39:25 Healing is messy and requires walking through emotional challenges with supportive guidance.
41:03 Emotional maturity matters more than chronological age in personal development.

“Everything is a lesson to me. Lessons are all around us all the time.” – Linda Binns
“If you're struggling, if it feels really hard, then it's not the right thing. You need to take a step back and ask yourself, ‘How could I make it easier?’” – Linda Binns

415: Conviction, Customization, and Clarity: Break Out of Your Comfort Zone with Andy Molinsky

Andy Molinsky is a Professor at Brandeis University's International Business School, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychology. His new book Reach discusses ways to know yourself better and break outside your comfort zone.
A simple exercise you can implement today is to confront that thing you're fearing, imagine the worst case scenario, then the ideal/perfect version, then the realistic version, and decide on the probability for each of the three.
Andy says that some or all of the five pain points holding you back are authenticity, likability, competence, resentment, and morality. Listen in as you can realize that thing you were procrastination doing wasn't so bad at all, and making progress will get you to break that cycle of avoidance.
Quotes:
“When you take a leap, when you try something, that's where learning happens. You can't learn if you don't actually try.” – Andy Molinsky
“When you avoid something, you get a short-term boost of relief. But over time, it just makes that thing much harder.” – Andy Molinsky
“There's no one-size-fits-all. Whatever you're trying to do to step outside your comfort zone, you can make your own version of it.” – Andy Molinsky
Takeaways:
04:30 Breaking out of your comfort zone requires understanding your personal barriers and creating a customized approach to overcome them.
07:52 Taking small risks creates a positive cycle of self-discovery and increased confidence, replacing the negative cycle of avoidance.
16:51 Personal conviction and purpose can provide the motivation needed to push through uncomfortable situations.
21:22 Most people catastrophize worst-case scenarios, but the realistic outcome is usually far less intimidating than imagined.
24:39 Stepping outside your comfort zone is not a one-time event, but a continuous process of growth and self-improvement.

Quotes:
“Half the battle is just knowing where you're at and knowing what needs to be fixed.” – Robert Plank

His goal is to help people break through their BS and amplify their productivity, profit, and performance by sharing clever mind games, life hacks, and the secrets of success found in music. Information does not equal transformation, and Derek says that you need to follow this three step process:
- open the floodgates to an idea: lower your standards about what a bad idea is, think about what's possible, and realize the "slingshot effect" (i.e. the gym makes you weaker and then you grow stronger)
- transition: sift, sort, preocess, narrow, filter, mix ideas
- completion: eliminate, edit, deadlines
Quotes:
“Breakthroughs often don't come from looking at new things. They come from looking at old things in a new way.” – Derek Doepker
“Information doesn't create transformation. Information without implementation—most people would say common sense—won't get you very good results, or any results at all.” – Derek Doepker
“One of the best ways to create really great work up to a high standard is to start by lowering your standard.” – Derek Doepker
Takeaways:
02:39 Personal development advice is universal, but its true power lies in making it specifically relevant to your unique personality and goals.
07:39 Information without implementation leads to zero progress. Learn something, then immediately put it into practice.
13:21 State management is critical - prepare yourself mentally and physically before tackling important tasks to maximize productivity.
20:22 Creativity isn't just about generating ideas, but also about filtering, structuring, and completing those ideas through a deliberate three-phase process.
26:21 High achievers often need external structure like deadlines to unlock their most innovative work and prevent endless exploration.
